We have brought back the infamous Julian Death March for the experienced and conditioned Mountain Biker. This Course is made up of 2 different loops starting and ending in the town of Julian. Time limits will be set in order to continue on the 2nd loop.

Although this is a race you must possess orienting skills and come into it with a POSITIVE attitude. If a course marker is down etc. it is up to you to navigate properly. The best bet is to know the course by PRE RIDING it or by taking along a map and using our cheat sheet. As much as we try to prepare it is difficult to mark over 80 miles of trail and not have anyone go off course. If you just want to put your head down and go for it then we would suggest you race a closed course. If you detest any pavement riding then this race is not for you.

If you have a GPS click here for our map page and you can download the  courses to you GPS from Geoladders.

Based out of Frank Lane Park in Julian, which is right in town, so you have access to everything without driving. On site camping spots are available, so reserve yours today. $10 per car and $15 per R.V. or trailer. Facilities limited to porta potties.

Classes: Open Male, Open Female, Male 40 plus, Female 40 Plus, Male 50 plus, Female 50 plus, Male 55 plus, Female 55 Plus, Male 60 plus, Youth 18 and under Male, Youth 18 and under Female. All classes have Geared and Single Speed categories

IN THE EVENT OF FOUL WEATHER WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE COURSE OR TO RESCHEDULE.

Details:

bullet

If you have not done at least 35 miles off road with a fair amount of climbing then this ride is not for you.

bullet

There will be a riders meeting at 7:45 A.M. before the start. All riders MUST be checked in by no later than 7:20 A.M.

bullet

We are going to do a controlled start to Pine Hills Road.

bullet

Wherever possible the course will be marked with arrows. Although we do the best to mark the course thing happens to signs and arrows like cows, kids, weather conditions etc! You will also be provided with maps and route sheets. An odometer on your bike is a good idea! It is your responsibility to know the course by pre riding it. If you don't pre ride the course then you are at a disadvantage right off the bat.

bullet

You must check in at the start finish area at the end of each loop which is at Frank Lane park which is 2 blocks north east of the 4 way stop in Julian.

bullet

You should be self sustained on all the loops. The main rest stop is in Julian at the start finish area and you can restock with food and drinks. There will be two intermediate rest stop on the first loop.

bullet

The course is not closed so expect vehicle traffic. Stay on your side of the road or trail. You must yield to hikers and horses whenever you meet them.

bullet

PLEASE check out before you go home so we don't spend all night looking for you! Better yet buddy up with someone and look out for each other.

bullet

Bring a bike in excellent running condition with all the tools and repair stuff you need. Bring layers of clothes and enough food and water to get you through each loop.

bullet

Cell phone reception is spotty but it is a good idea to bring one.

bullet

If you crash and get hurt it takes a while to get help to you. Up here they often use life flight which is very expensive and you are responsible for the costs! Remember risking it on the down hills will not get you first place! Watch your speed on the down hills. If you want to go fast do it on the up hills!

bullet

We will sweep the course with bikes and motorcycles.

bullet

Awards will be handed out as the winners in the different classes arrive at the finish.. All riders must be off the course by 6:30 P.M.
