2006 Tour of Borrego Hillclimb Results

Another year and guess what? Some great racing but last year's winner Kevin McNulty repeated although not in a record time.

Conditions were near perfect again this year. Kevin McNulty started out strong took the lead early on and kept up a pace that no one could match.

Once again the real race was for second place between 2003 winner Eric Schowengerdt and 2004 winner Herb Johnson. Unlike last year Eric took a lead over Herb that he never relinquished. Towards the end Herb closed the gap and it looked like he would repeat his second place finish of last year but Eric held him off. Even at 62 years of age Herb showed that he continues to cheat mother time and he turned in his best time ever!

Butch Richardson deserves special mention for turning in a great time of 1:02:10 at the age of 63.

We had our largest group ever. Winner of the women's division was Adrienne Brown and winner of the junior division was 1st time participant and Julian resident Scott Neth.

In all we had 26 participants this year, the most ever. It is never too early to start training. Will the elusive 50 minute barrier be broken next year? Stay tuned!
